An upstand provides a small lip around the tray over which you can tile, or up to which you can place the frame of an enclosure. The principle is simple... water doesn't travel up hill easily, so by moulding a small lip around the perimeter of the tray over which you tile an obstacle is created that water will find it difficult to pass should it penetrate into any small cracks between the shower tray and wall tiles. Longer term problems of dampness around the base of the tray can therefore be prevented. You may require upstands on all sides, various sides, or none at all - depending on preference and/or materials and screens being used. Mira Flight trays are available with upstands on various sides. The following image shows the position of upstand options relative to the waste outlet. You must state how many upstands you require when placing your order. Click to enlarge Remember, the tray can be rotated to suit where the upstand and enclosure walls meet. This will of course move the position of the waste outlet. By using a 'riser kit' which includes legs and a plinth panel a waste pipe may be passed under the tray (between the tray and the floor) to connect the waste outlet to the drainage point giving you freedom to rotate the tray as you wish.
